Our Story

Meet Tucker

The inspiration behind our mission, our welcoming space, and our namesake.

Welcome to Tucker’s Treehouse, a dedicated sanctuary where grieving children and teens can find comfort, community, and healing after the loss of a loved one.

Named in honor of Tucker, Hospice of Western Kentucky’s beloved therapy dog and faithful companion, Tucker’s Treehouse was created to reflect the same comfort, compassion, playfulness, and unconditional love that Tucker brought to every child and family he met. His gentle presence became a source of peace during some of life’s hardest moments — inspiring a space where grieving children can feel safe, supported, and understood.

Created in response to a growing need within our community, and inspired by nationally recognized models of grief support, Tucker’s Treehouse provides peer-based programs for children and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Through group sessions, art therapy, guided play, and meaningful connection with others who understand their journey, children are given the tools, encouragement, and space to process grief at their own pace. Led by trained volunteers and caring professionals, Tucker’s Treehouse reminds every child that even in loss, they are never alone.

Art Therapy

Children express their emotions through guided creative activities that use paint, clay, collage, and drawing as tools for healing. Our trained facilitators create safe, open-ended environments where artistic expression becomes a language for grief — giving voice to feelings that may be too complex to speak aloud.

Peer Groups

Age-appropriate small groups help children process grief in community. Led by caring adults, these peer circles foster honest conversations, shared stories, and gentle encouragement — helping kids and teens feel seen, heard, and less alone.

Group play, discussion prompts, and check-ins create structure, consistency, and a safe space for healing. Each session is designed to meet children where they are emotionally and developmentally, while helping them build healthy coping skills and meaningful connections with peers who understand their grief journey.

Children (Ages 6–10) Tuesdays from 4:30–6:00 p.m.

Play-Based Healing

Therapeutic play sessions are designed to restore trust, joy, and connection through intentional games, movement, and story-based exploration. These activities gently support emotional regulation and help children build resilience — all while experiencing comfort, laughter, and the freedom to just be themselves.
